Ascent Attack and Defense: Why Mid Control Is Everything

Structure

Ascent is the classic two-site map: A is open with long lanes, B is tight with corners, and the middle is split by Market, Mid and Catwalk. The defense rotates fast, so attackers must create openings with utility.

Why mid is the key

  • Hold mid and attackers can choose A or B, forcing the defense to split
  • Lose mid and every attacker move is read; you are stuck hitting one site head-on

So the defense's first 30 seconds are about securing mid, and the attack is about smoking and flashing it open.

Attack basics

  • Smoke mid for vision, use an Initiator flash or recon to read Market
  • Read the enemy spread, then rotate fast — do not brawl in mid
  • After the plant, switch to defense: hold the retake lanes, leave one on the spike

Defense basics

  • A sniper on the long mid lane applies pressure; a Sentinel tripwire watches the flank
  • Keep one on each site plus two or three flexing mid
  • On a rush call, collapse to the site — do not fight in no-man's land
There is no secret to this map: whoever controls mid controls the round. Everything in the first minute should serve that goal.
