How to Win the Pistol Round: The Right Mix of Gun, Armor and Abilities

Why it matters

Winning the pistol round sets up the anti-eco second round and the bonus third round. Pistol-round results shape the economy of the first five rounds.

Buy plans (every credit counts)

  • Light armor (250): pistol damage is low, and half armor eats one extra bullet. Usually better than an expensive gun
  • Ghost (500): one-taps unarmored enemies at mid range and is suppressed, so no minimap ping — the pick for information players
  • Sheriff (800): high damage, bets on headshots. For players confident in their head line; body shots are poor value
  • Default pistol (free): pour everything into abilities — good for Initiators and Controllers, where utility buys more than a gun

By role

  • Duelist: light armor + Ghost or Sheriff, take the first fight
  • Initiator: default or Ghost plus full utility, trade utility for information
  • Sentinel / Controller: utility first — tripwires, poison and slows are worth far more than an expensive pistol here

Details

  • Pistol fights happen closer, so pre-aim lower than you would with a rifle
  • Counter-strafing is more forgiving with a pistol, but you still must stop — moving shots go wide
  • Do not get greedy: the winning side is often hurt, so play the second round as a steady anti-eco
